Message the rotating mass of the system you are changing how the damper will function at the same frequency. I never said it would not dampen at all, I just asked if he can you show that it will function as effectively, or even show that it will not do more damage since the frequencies are different.

Also, I do not take on face value that the damper doesn't need to be tuned. I would say of course it does. Rotational mass-spring-damper systems are analogous to regular mass-spring-damper systems. Saying the rotational damper doesn't need to be tuned is like saying you can put any shock absorber(damper) on the car and it will be fine since the damper doesn't need to be tuned. Sure, you will get some damping, but not at the correct frequency for the weight of the car and stiffness of the springs.

The mass of the crank and other rotating parts is like the mass of teh car, the torsional spring constant of the crank is like the spring rate of the car springs, and the pulley(if it actually does function as a damper, I'm skeptical, if it does it is only for NVH IMHO) is like the car's shock absorber. Change anything in the system without changing the others and the system will not respond to the same input as it did originally.
